From their tone, I can tell the were trying hard to be helpful.
But, no receipt for me yet. July 2nd filer here as well.
Should I keep another set of 485 application ready, just in case if I don't hear about check cashing or receipt till august 15th ?
Is there any harm in filing the 485 again (just to be safe).... IF I don't get any indication of action on july2nd app ?
And how are you sure that the second application will be correct and not have any errors that the first one had? :D

Fraud is usually about lie. If you hide a material fact from USCIS, that is a lie by ommision; and becomes a fraud if it was done intentionally. Changing employment while on EB GC application is a material fact and would matter much when USCIS decides on your case.
Usually, this kind of ommision is found out when the individual applies for another immigration benefit or for Naturalization.

Do not decide your long term life with short term outlook. Give enough confidence to your would be wife that she is in your future plans. As many have said, if she can be brought here immediately, try H and L visa. Or get a reentry permit and move to India for 1-2 years and then try for H or L visa. However H & L visa are at the mercy of the company and I dont really think that is an option unless there is a project on radar.
Since your situation is aggravated, your wife can apply for F1 visa and come here. How you want to answer visa questions on DS-156 or date your marriage cert is upto you. But all said and done and whatever the morale police on this board have recommended is not really valid because you will be going through all of this and not these people who are giving other suggestions. I really want to ask all these people who say dont backdate marriage cert or dont get her on F1, are you guys angels and have done nothing wrong in your lives or are you just preaching others not to sin?
But think about it, 5 years is a very long time and you might want to just give up GC if nothing else works. I would not have given up a girl ;) I wanted to marry for the sake of GC. Remember your life is not about GC or living in america, its just a tool to make your life better.

Filed on July 27, we have not yet received FP Notice.
Talked to service center (3rd party customer service) on Nov 16, they have assigned a ticket, they mentioned USCIS will respond with in 45 days.

Ya...Atleast, they should allow us to file EAD. In that case my spouse can work. She did not get H1b this year(because of lottery system). She has PHD in CSE and sitting at home.
If she has a PHD in CSE she should look for a job get H1 and file Green Card in EB1 all off this can be done in 6 months! What's holding you back???? :)

I wonder what our children and grandchildren will learn from all these. When they grow up and know that their parents had to go through this mess while waiting to be accepted legally for xxxx number of years and some people got the "grand reward" of being illegal for many years!! These CIRcus operators will be responsible for the loss of "very little" moral left in this country. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Well they will easily find out from your SSN number if one is on payroll or not. I am seriously looking into this matter of getting illegal and many of my friends agree. Once the bill passes in its current form we should get advise from a good lawyer to convert status from legal to illegal. It sounds so insane when I say changing for legal to illegal..but that is the hit thing these days.
I might offend a few here but I see an obvious analogy and I am going to point it
Converting from legal to illegal is like in India You did not get admission through regular/normal seat so one converts himself to SC,ST, OBC(reservation) and get admission through fake certificate :) at a lower percentage and no fees

I called USCIS NSC yesterday and asked if my new approved I-140 was interfiled with my pending I-485. The IO asked me for my A# and then told me that she doesn't see the new I-140 starting with SRC on the system. She only sees the original I-140 with the LIN. It was very frustrating to hear this as I had called NSC a week before and the IO told me that the new I-140 is in the system and visa was available for me. However, I remembered that last week the IO did not ask me for my A#. She only asked for the receipt numbers of my pending I-485 and the new I-140.
Friends, what else can I do to make sure that my newly approved I-140 under EB2 is interfiled?
Speaking from my case, I called NSC for the same reason multiple times and every time the information I got (now looking back) was either useless or insignificant. Only one procedural info I got once was correct. They informed me that when you Interfile, your request goes into your file and no receipt or any other update is done to your case. When your 485 app RD becomes current and an IO picks up the case to work on it, should consider the Interfiling request. If your PD is then current due to the Interfiling request and every other detail on your 485 app is complete, your case is approved immediately. That is exactly what happened to my case. Calling them is less fruitful and more frustation. I only called them once a month after they changed their processing dates for the month just in the hope I may get lucky with an IIO who may give some info. Never did. I also took an Infopass, but that was fruitless too, as they also could not provide any information. Just asked me to wait until my RD becomes current.
Hope this gives you some perspective and lowers your anxiety.

No, it is not mandatory, but I suggest your renew it if you do not have H1B visa so that you can have it readily should a need arise to travel in emergency.
My AP is expiring very soon. I do not have any travel plans to India in 6 months from now. Is it mandatory that I have to renew the AP before the old one expires?

Tired of waiting ( PD: August 2001) I finally wrote to both my local congressman and Senator today. My senator is on senate Immigration commitee so lets see what happens. Hopefully something will move.
If this doesnt help I will try Ombudsman next after couple of months. The Ombudsman form has a question of if you have tried through Congressman etc first so we can try and see that.
Guys its so funny when you see ppl with PD of 2003 and 2005 complaining and bitching. Here we have waited 7 + yrs our PD's are current and we are doing OK. Wait sure brings maturity :)
USCIS does not process cases in PD order, because they can't. Thousands of files they receive, are sequenced in order they receive them at Centers. They claim that cases are processed in order they receive them. "Receive Date" is not what you see on your receipt, it is the date they physically received the case on (thus if case is moved from one center to another, true Receive Date is the date it was recieved by the last center). You see this data online status as "...we received (or transferred) your case on ...".
PD critieria is limited to certain countries only. Therefore, by and large, "cases are processed in order they are received..." works well. However, for India, China etc. where PD cutoff has to be factored, it is used merely to decide to work or skip a file (when seen in the receive date order). If PD cutoff date is very restricted, they will have to skip a lot of cases, which slows them down. That's the reason every July they ask for wider PD cutoff dates so that they can consume a lot of visas, as they don't have to skip that many cases.
This process is a mockery of the PD cutoff dates, but that's how it works. If you sent your case on June 28, 07, with July 2, 07 as the printed Receive Data on your receipt, but the case where it finally rested, was entered in their database on Oct. 28, '07 (with a Notice Date soon thereafter), you case will not be looked at, no matter what the PD cutoff date is, unless all cases received before Oct. 28, '07 have been reviewed.

If I were you, I would talk about my problem and how frustrated I am to ALL my colleagues and friends and well-wishers and get atleast 100 letters that will help to pass the "filing before PD current" admin fix which is part of the current campaign.

The H1B sponsoring company is a large and famous Biopharma company with billions in market cap. AOS is also through the I-140 from that company.
Everything is way above board for us. Still we got stuck!

and to your point, even i am not comparing any schools... i am just saying that there should be a quota for iim/iit grads...
