can you please tell me the source of these stats? Per the DOL stats, from March 2005 to March 2007 only 130K total cases were approved:

Those are not Labor approvals, those are Green Card approvals.

How much clout does this congresswoman have? She seems to understand the entire scenario better than any american soul out there! It also seems like she has spent a lot of time on this and understands the system very well.
I guess it remains to be seen what kind of impact her letter will have on USCIS. Obviously, USCIS did something unlawful.

It is also important for us to realize if we let go of this opportunity we could be in for a very very long wait.
When IV was not there, we had no hopes, no one could do anything, now IV and the volunteers have taken the initiative, least we can do is support them.
We all deserve a better life and more respect in this country.
Next few months are most critical for us, please take a step forward and contribute.

Seems to be they are centalizing everything in Atlanta.... Not sure if this is causing the delays though

Since we now know that SA 187 had nothing to do with immigration and that it WAS indeed passed, the possible typo in this thread (about SA 187) title should be changed to something along the lines "Senate immigration amendment to H.R 2 NOT passed".
Besides we should whoheartedly explore with Kennedy, Kerry et al. if they game for pushing the immigration amendment (w/o the hard 10% country cap) in the house-senate conference.
If they are playing politics with the Sen Session illegal immigrant amendment (which passed!) we might as well use their tete-a-tete to our advantage ;)
BTW sen Sessions amendment also did not pass. It was just introduced, Th estatus of SA143(session's amendment) and SA180 is same.

feels like the last day of the annual exam at school. What do we say when people correlate illegal and legal immigrations as closely connected?
There was a hearing yesterday in the house "Should We Embrace the Senate's Grant of Amnesty to Millions of Illegal Aliens and Repeat the Mistakes of the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986?"

One of the most controversial provisions in S2611 is the very large increase in legal immigration it creates. The larger the pool of immigrants (legal or illegal) in the United States, the greater is the pull for more illegal immigration. Illegal aliens often live with legal immigrants and it is legal immigrants who often provide information about jobs and housing to their relatives and friends back home. Legal immigration has been increasing for more than three decades, and illegal immigration has been increasing right along with it. The top sending countries for legal immigration are by and large the top sending countries for illegal immigration. A survey funded by the National Institute of Health found that one-third of new legal immigrants were former illegal aliens. Legal and illegal immigration are closely linked. The past shows that if you increase one you increase the other. The Senate bill repeats the mistake of thinking amnesty plus increases in legal immigration will solve the problem. It did not in the past and there is no reason to think it will this time around. Instead, S2611 will almost certainly stimulate more illegal mmigration...
