Dear friends:
As the Past President of a PMI Chapter (PMP for the past 10 years and working in the field of Project management for the past 15 years) let me shed some light to this query.
Reasons why you should do PMP
1) If you believe you need a promotion, new job or rise the corporate ladder within the field of IT or management, take PMP.....Billing rate of PM's is $90-150/hr for consulting, full time could be from $100K-$250K. The next generation CIO's will be highly qualified PM's.
2) Job security for PMP's. The only job that will not be outsourced to India or China is that of a project manager.
3) PMP will help you get the project manager job, if you do not have one. However, become a Project Manager only if you like working with people. Trust me, if you hate politics and hate managing people, it is better for you to stay a techie. Your life will be miserable if you do not like managing people. Do something that you enjoy, rather than what you may hate. It is all about people and people management, rather than project management in the world of PMP's
4) PMP has become mandatory for all large gigs or projects. Small projects do not need PMP's and small projects do not pay well too.
5) PMP does not make you a better project manager. But PMP is needed by the industry. It is the experience that one gets from being on the field from different industries that makes one a good project manager.
I hope this should help some of you to make a decision to be a PMP or not.
Could not agree with this post more..In my case i manage a small team but also intentionally contribute in the development too just to keep my technical skills and not to mention i still get a kick out of coding :).. I find the development part easier. People management and the politics you need to deal with your peers and higher up is the tougher part. And on the top nothing is justified .....
only two centers process LAbor Certs. Chicago approves in 4 days mx, but Atlanta Center approves in 4 months .... So people who applied in chicago can file their 485 but people who filed in Atlanta cannot.
Why dont u show ur frustration there ??
And legally, LS or LC or what ever or GC for that matter in these cases, is an employer based peition. And if a legal company wants to do it ......why r u guys worried .......DO NOT GENERALIZE EVERYONE. and on the top .... no one is a dharmatma here as someone said .......

It'll be nice if the core endorsed it. We members do contribute and participate in all campaigns when core asks. It'll be great if the core lets the ideas bubble up from members too! That'll make it a two way street.

Reality is DREAM act is directly connected to HISPANIC votes for Democrats, EB community doesnt have any VOTING rights, neither they get any support from the folks who are already GC/UScitizenship holders.
Once people are out of this GC mess, they all start talking about anti immigration and that's the reality, u go to any indian community around and see how much support you have from those folks who have GC/US citizenship.

I wish they invested in R and D and innovation and products instead of services. Service industry is mainly governed by dealing with cost efficient labor. These companies reach out to IITs IIMs get the best and brightest and dump them into the service sector and start earning on them.
If they changed their business modal and started investing in products and Rand D, it may not give them quick money, but the results will be beneficial on the long run.
Service industry is not always based on labor cost differentials. Many services are value added services. For example, stock brokers used to charge $200 and above for stock trades; however, electronic brokers came and made the industry efficient and hence can profit more by charging only $10 or even less. But this does not mean that the stock brokers are earning less. In fact they are earning more than before. However, their value additions come from faster settlement times and high volumes. This is easier to analyze. Now look at London or Hong Kong -- what services it provides and why is it booming?
High investments in R&D in general is good for economy but not necessarily true for a company. For example, German manufacturers are best R&D shops; however, their over investment in precision is precisely their problem. On the other hand Apple copied mp3 music players from Creative and made millions. One can find countless examples of skilled marketing (services) not innovative products making money. So don't assume that R&D investments are always good for a company.
Finally, Wipro & the likes -- they have already opened up shops in China, Mexico, Brazil (yes)... and finally if dollar falls further they could actually buy the US companies and make them efficient (Honda and GM example).

GC is an american dream and like any american dream it is just a dream that remains a dream for most of the ordinary people.Even if you get a gc it wouldn't make u a millionare.
Instead think about starting some good business and forever get out the clutches of the "law of ordinary people" which states that if you are a reqular person u'll continue to be so in any society untill you die and will find some way to make your life miserable.Hence if not GC tomorrow u'll complain about money and later missing India etc etc

NKR, not sure if you heard about this one proverb... "jabh kismath GA***U hai tow kya karey ga PANDU"....we unfortunately get trapped with such type of employers who trouble their employees and learn lessons in hard way and looks like you haven't encountered any such experiences with your employer, if that's the case you are lucky enough & I wish you would NEVER fall into such employers hand who trouble for so many other different reasons....or not sure you should have one small experience and see how you feel just for the heck of it....

I request everybody to add one line in the letter for Consular processing filers as they should be allowed to get AC21 and EAD facilities now. This law came earlier only for 485 filers because CP process was fast but now due to retrogession all CP filers are waiting for Years and in the worst sitauation as 485 filers are enjoying their freedom with AC21 and EAD

IV has the clout now to approach agencies, explain to them our argument and see if we are able to convince them for short-term reliefs. It is just a matter of trying.
I'm smiling. We will certainly try, but the part above (clout etc) would be an overstatement of our current levels of access. :)
Note that these are the same agencies that have been resisting our efforts to get even the most basic breakdown of data.
